Obama, the Smooth Operator

Obama, the Smooth Operator

Better late than never; Hillary Rodham Clinton finally succumbed to pressure and endorses Obama—thanks to a push from New York State Congressional Delegation. Should all be forgiven for the unprofessional and un-sportsman-like behavior? Should we not be wary of the Clintons? We will keep our fingers crossed until the homeboy gets elected in November.

Now, let us turn to Obama. He is one smart dude. Let us be straight: he will not, all of a sudden, make Black kosher in America, but it is a good start among many firsts that will affect the psyche in subtle ways. Is the 4-minute mile, once considered impossible, now not history? Now, Blacks sit at the back of the bus by choice. When I see young Blacks rushing to sit at the back of buses, I wonder whether they think about the irony of it all.

Obama did it in style and class that will go into the books of history of a David felling a Goliath of the Democratic Party. It is a lesson for all of us: that if you prepare yourself and are at the top of your game you can win in the jungle of America. Tiger proved it. Mohammed Ali proved it. Jordan proved it. Jackie Robinson did it. And the list goes on and on.
