Is the Lovefest Real?

First, the lady dickered in recognizing Obama's win. The decorum in sports, which is no different from politics and life, you congratulate the victor there and then. You don't go home, relax, think about it, and maneuver in sharing the loot before you give a pat on the back of the victor.

In plain language: Obama had to kiss the loser's butt, however smelly, winch and smile! All for what? For the so-called 18 million voters, chief among them crazed white old women who were the primary beneficiaries of America's much maligned Affirmative Action program. They threatened to turn to McCain or stay home on poll day. If Obama were for real change, he would have called their bluff, and let us see how they would have the stomach to vote for another four years of the messy economy, wars, a diminished America in the eyes of the world, and a possible all-out tilt to a conservative Supreme Court with John McCain.

For all his effeminate predisposition and mendicant overtures Obama is not assured of a win with these white broads. My money is on the white blue collar dudes--the so-called Reagancrats. They want a real he-man who will make them feel manly in a castrating America, and they saw "their man" in the whisky chugging and tough talking Hillary.

As to Bill Clinton, Obama is better off leaving him in limbo to satisfy his wanderlust (pun intended) and ego around the earth where people still think he matters. He is bad news for Obama's campaign. That is all I can say

The Almighty Sun

Right now in the Pacific Northwest of US of A sunshine is a rare commodity even as the first day of summer—the summer solstice-- comes up. When the summer sun shines in this part of the world people go bonkers—shirts off, skimpy dresses abound and the sellers of shorts are laughing all the way to the bank. Is there any wonder our ancestors across the globe adored the sun and gave it deity status?

To the Greeks there was Apollo (sometimes known as Titan or Helios), the Sun god, who brought life-giving heat and light to Earth. He is the patron god of musicians and poets, and he carries a lyre and his symbol represents the “egg of creation”. (http://www.wordsources.info/apollo.html). The Germanic tribes had Sol. The Afrikan Munsh people had the Supreme Awondo.

The sun brings life. Photosynthesis makes plants grow bringing leaves, fruits, flowers and grains from which animals, including humans, feed and sustain life. Vitamin D a vital element for bone growth can be derived naturally from the sun.
This year I fancied giving some colour to the old house. I bought some flower seeds, dug up some soil in the front yard, and threw them seeds in. Within a week some young seedlings were vigorously finding their way out of the soil. Like an excited child I checked their progress as I watered them religioulsy. It is late, but I am looking forward to the flower bloom as the sun pours its blessing. What a wonder!

Man can capture this energy that occurs naturally for its own purpose. The sun rays can be captured to generate electricity thereby reducing the need to dam rivers for hydro-electricity with sometimes attendant negative environmental consequences. Thus solar panel is now a power source for torches, street lights, water-heating, water-pumping, battery charging, etc. The heat created by the sun can cause variations in atmospheric pressures thereby creating wind currents that again can be harnessed to produce electricity.

O Sun, you are indeed almighty. In our modern day rational minds we still can respect you and harness you for our benefit just as our ancestors found meaning and strength through you.

Obama, the Smooth Operator

Obama, the Smooth Operator

Better late than never; Hillary Rodham Clinton finally succumbed to pressure and endorses Obama—thanks to a push from New York State Congressional Delegation. Should all be forgiven for the unprofessional and un-sportsman-like behavior? Should we not be wary of the Clintons? We will keep our fingers crossed until the homeboy gets elected in November.

Now, let us turn to Obama. He is one smart dude. Let us be straight: he will not, all of a sudden, make Black kosher in America, but it is a good start among many firsts that will affect the psyche in subtle ways. Is the 4-minute mile, once considered impossible, now not history? Now, Blacks sit at the back of the bus by choice. When I see young Blacks rushing to sit at the back of buses, I wonder whether they think about the irony of it all.

Obama did it in style and class that will go into the books of history of a David felling a Goliath of the Democratic Party. It is a lesson for all of us: that if you prepare yourself and are at the top of your game you can win in the jungle of America. Tiger proved it. Mohammed Ali proved it. Jordan proved it. Jackie Robinson did it. And the list goes on and on.

Suspense as a Weapon of Mass Destruction

Suspense the tool of great novels and movies can be used in the hands of politicians, full of themselves, to abuse the population. Take the case of Museveni of Uganda who often creates controversial issues that keeps the country in a state of anxiety for as long as it suits him. And then, of course, the suspense madam of this last months has been Hillary Rodham Clinton. Even today, when by all measurements she has lost the primary, she still keeps talking tough and no letting out what she will do. The question on everybody’s mind is: Will she bow out or will she just suspend her campaign but take the fight all the way to the Democratic convention?

Now, every democratic leader is walking gingerly around her lest they make Hillary angry and, by extension, the millions of white broads who might scuttle Obama’s election chances in November. Judging from the devilish smiles Hillary is enjoying every bit of her power.

What I ask myself is: all this for what? Is she really the best hope for the Democratic Party and America? She thinks she is. And worse still: that Catholic priest might be right that she just doesn’t like that, of all people, a Negro is taking the nomination away from her. And we all have to pay for it with suspense and anxiety.
